Teresa - Great list of books for the library. We have a great Book club here, as well. I don't know about your but ours will pick an adult book and then a complimentary youth book for the month. For instance, one month they did Chocolat for the adults and Willie Wonka and The Chocolate Factory for the younger group. (There was a teenager book, too, but I don't remember what it was) Anyhow, what a GREAT way to get the whole family to read together, dontcha think?
I always thought this would be a fun thing to do but never have. Maybe we sould start an AR bookclub??? What do you think?
I recently read your post about Irène Némirovsky and wanted to let you know about an exciting new exhibition about her life, work, and legacy that will open on September 24, 2008 at the Museum of Jewish Heritage -A Living Memorial to the Holocaust in New York City. Woman of Letters: Irène Némirovsky and Suite Française, which will run through the middle of March, will include powerful rare artifacts - the actual handwritten manuscript for Suite Française, the valise in which it was found, and many personal papers and family photos. The majority of these documents and artifacts have never been outside of France. For fans of her work, this exhibition is an opportunity to really "get to know" Irene. And for those who can't visit, there will be a special website that will live on the Museum's site www.mjhnyc.org.
The Museum will host several public programs over the course of the exhibition's run that will put Némirovsky's work and life into historical and literary context. Book clubs and groups are invited to the Museum for tours and discussions in the exhibition's adjacent Salon (by appointment). It is the Museum's hope that the exhibit will engage visitors and promote dialogue about this extraordinary writer and the complex time in which she lived and died. To book a group tour, please contact Tracy Bradshaw at 646.437.4304 or tbradshaw@mjhnyc.org. Please visit our website at www.mjhnyc.org for up-to-date information about upcoming public programs or to join our e-bulletin list.
Thanks for sharing this info with your readers. If you need any more information, please do not hesitate to contact me at hfurst@mjhnyc.org.
Leesa: Thanks for coming by! What a great idea to include the whole family and keeping it theme oriented too. Leave it to Wake Forest... Take care!
Paddy: Thanks for coming by too! I think an AR bookclub would be great. The only thing is that I find at times it is really hard to just keep-up with AR itself, but that is just me. I bet there would be a lot of people here that would be very receptive to the idea though. Take care!
Hannah: Thanks for stopping by and letting us know more about Irene Nemirovsky! Isn't it great that blogging allows us to build on peoples comments thus creating a more informational source of information to be used by everyone... Thanks again!!
Teresa ~ Are you part of this book club? Do you have time do read? Just kidding....I know you are a mommy!! Seriously. this looks like a great club! Have a great week
Terrie: Nope, with blogging and everything else I don't have much time to do a book club. In fact a friend of mine was thinking of starting a book club and I had to tell her I really didn't have time for that right now. Take care!
