NASCAR Speedpark ~ Concord, NC (A Favorite Place)

NASCAR Speedpark ~ Concord, NC

NASCAR SPEEDPARK SIGN

We are pretty lucky where we live; only twenty miles from Charlotte, only twenty minutes from Hickory and Mooresville, and only forty minutes from Concord Mills in Concord, NC and the home of a NASCAR Speedpark. There are only four other NASCAR Speedparks around; one in Myrtle Beach, Pigeon Forge, and St. Louis, and the other is in Canada. I don't know which location was first but I do know that Pigeon Forge had theirs before we had ours. I guess being located in the heart of NASCAR, probably didn't hurt either.

Everyone has their "favorite places" and NASCAR Speedpark just happens to be our son's "favorite place". He never gets enough of it. I guess when I was twelve and if this place was around back then I would have loved it too.

 Speed Limit None

This place has a lot to offer.

  • Like five different types of race tracks one of which is in doors.
  • Like three race car simulators that offers all the NASCAR race tracks on the racing circuit.
  • Like an inviting pool full of bumper speed boats.
  • Like a nice mini-golf course.
  • Like laser tag.
  • Like wall climbing.
  • Like a huge arcade and shopping area.

If you can't find something with your favorite driver's name on it then Dale there is a problem!

Lead Your Dog To Water . . .

Lead Your Dog To Water

Staying Hydrated and Healthy . . .

August can be one of the hottest months of the year in the Carolinas and other places as well. We need to be very observant of our dog's daily needs. Like humans, a pet needs ample water to remain at optimum health, and ensuring adequate hydration is vital. For a dog to be properly hydrated a daily water intake of one-half to one ounce of water per pound of body weight is what most veterinarians agree as a standard rule of thumb. That amount should be increased if your dog is very active and exercises vigorously.
                                                               running dog

A dog should always have access to fresh drinking water on walks, in parks, and on running or biking trails. Lakes, ponds, rivers, streams, and even standing water can harbor numerous bacteria that can make a dog sick, especially if there is chemical runoff from local farm fields, or if herbicides and/or insecticides are present. Even pouring fresh water onto the ground for a dog at lap up can be dangerous due to residual chemicals and bacteria.

Do you know how to gage your dog's hydration level?

I really didn't until now.

To gage your pet's hydration:
  • Gently pull up the "scruff" skin on your dog's neck and then turn loose. If the skin doesn't spring back to its original spot, your dog is not getting enough water.
  • Check your dog's gums. Gums that look drier than normal and are a bit discolored are a strong indication of under-hydration.
  • Excessive and sometimes uncontrollable panting can mean a dog is overheated and is on the way to becoming dehydrated.
A few ounces of cool water can help bring everything back to normal.

Happy Dog

A happy - healthy dog makes everyone happy!

South21 Drive-In ~ A Charlotte Favorite Since 1955

South21 Curb Service

If you are new to the Charlotte area you have to make a trip to South21 Curb Service , it opened in 1955, and it truly is a local favorite by many Charlotteans. Not far from Ovens Auditorium and Independence Arena. It's traditional drive-in that you pull up beside a little stand with a menu and a microphone, park, roll down your window, and place your order. Soon, a carhop-type guy with the trademark South 21 black fedora hat and red jacket will deliver your food to your car.

Their main staples are hamburgers, hamburger steak, fish, and chicken, all served with fries or onion rings! Their two most advertised entrees are the "Super Boy" deluxe burger, with all the traditional trimmings, and the "Fish-O-Burger" which is two pieces of Leviathan-sized fish piled onto a minuscule bun. Their Wednesday and Friday special of golden fried filet of trout is really hard to pass up at $6.47, which includes homemade tartar sauce, cole slaw, fries, and dinner bread.

Charlotte is Leading The Nation With . . .Encore!

Encore

Uptown Charlotte has experienced a condo boom for the past several years, both new construction and renovation/conversion. One of the latest is a twenty-story condo building, named Encore, that will feature car elevators, which is said to be the first of its kind in the United States. Only twenty units will be available. Floor plans call for units ranging from 3,000 to 6,300 square feet and each will feature a private two or four car garage. An elaborate elevator system will bring cars up to the front door of the condo, how cool is that?!?!?!?!

Encore is located in Uptown Charlotte at 6th Street and North Tryon which is less than two blocks from Trade and Tyron which is Charlotte's Uptown center. Directly adjacent is the Hearst Tower and one block away is Bank of America Corporate Center. If you are a professional working in Uptown Charlotte this is the place to be!  This area is full of entertainment too, with the Blumenthal Arts Studio, Belk Theater, Bobcats Arena, Panthers Stadium, and high-end restaurants and bars.

The Encore Project consists of three parties:
Owner/Developer: Pursuit Group, LLC
Theatre Operator: Ark Management Company
Non-Profit: Carolina Theatre Preservation

Carolina Theatre

The former Carolina Theatre is right next door and will be incorporated  into Encore. Once it's restored it will serve as a beacon for the city!

Some Highlights of The Historical Carolina Theatre

  • It has been a vital part of Charlotte's history for over 80 years.
  • Was  part of Paramounts Publix Theatre chain.
  • Opened to the public on March 7, 1927.
  • It is the only theater in Uptown Charlotte to have escaped destruction.
  • The first racially integrated theater in Charlotte.
  • First public building in Charlotte to have air conditioning.
  • Hosted Charlotte Symphony's first performance.
  • At one point, the movie screen was the largest of any venue between Atlanta and Richmond.
  • Elvis preformed on stage in 1956.

Green Your Litter

Green Your Litter
Smelly Trash

Did you know that an estimated 2 million tons of clay cat litter ends up in Landfills each year throughout the United States? According to TREEHUGGER.COM the clay used in cat litter is strip-mined and is a nonrenewable resource. They also claim that some clumping clay cat litters also contain crystalline silica, which is a known carcinogen. I don't know about you but I personally wouldn't want to add anything more in my home that is known as a carcinogen. I have new granite counter tops that I have to worry about now! But it really makes you wonder with all the cancers and other things our pets are getting these days. Surely, we wouldn't want to be using something that exposes them to an increased risk of having to suffer unnecessary illnesses and diseases.
                                                                                                                                                     Cat Litter

I had no idea that some kitty litter has gone Eco-Friendly. Now there is biodegradable litter made from renewable plant resources such as pine, wheat, recycled newspaper, and corn. Biodegradable litter is flushable and has deodorizing properties, too. Here are a few on the market now, what their main ingredient is, and the places that carry them.

Way-to-Go, Clemson!

 Way-to-Go, Clemson!
Clemson Paw
This year Clemson University has taken the honor of the College with the Happiest Students, by the Princeton Review. The Princeton Review reviews all Universities and Colleges around the United States to find the top schools of this and that, then publishes them.According to the survey, Clemson football and outdoor activities are the reasons Clemson's students are the happiest.
                                              Clemson Paw

Trust me, from personal experience this place is pretty awesome. The whole town not just students expound school spirit. From the painted tiger paws on the streets leading into and out, to the majority of stores incorporating tiger paws on their buildings, this town shouts . . . GO TIGERS! This is no town that resents students invading them but rather they LOVE the students and wish them well. Heck when Clemson is playing at home the whole town comes to a complete stop. People here are always talking about their Clemson Football . . .
                                                                                                           Clemson Paw
As far as the outdoor activities are concerned, Lake Hartwell borders the campus and a few miles up the road over by Seneca and Salem is the gorgeous Lake Keowee. Lake Keowee is known to be one of the clean lakes and has the backdrop of mountains. Hiking and mountain biking is about a half hour away. Clemson also has a botanical gardens that is pretty amazing, too.
                                                                                                                                                          Clemson Paw
Other than tailgating (a must do at all games) students approach life 'Southern Style' in that they are pretty laid-back, like having a good time, work hard, and have a tremendous amount of pride!

Clemson also ranked:
#8 for Best Career/Job Placement Services
#8 for Everyone Plays Intramural Sports

Customized Football Jersey - ImageChef.com
Congratulations CLEMSON
