Congratulations Charlotte! ~ #8 on "The 100 Best Places to Live and Launch 2008"

Congratulations Charlotte!!

Fortune Small Business Magazine reports that Charlotte ranks #8 on their list of "The 100 Best Places to Live and Launch 2008".  Fortune's goal was to find towns with the best mix of business advantages and lifestyle appeal. Regional organizations such as the local Small Business and Technology Center, the Inventors Network, and the Central Piedmont Community College's Center for Entrepreneurship supply a mix of mentoring, networking, and technical assistance to innovative entrepreneurs; especially those in the finance and technology fields. A research complex sponsored in part by the University of North Carolina at Charlotte is set to open its labs this year to scientists and startups involved in healthcare and nutrition research will help develop the Charlotte's biotech industry.

Charlotte is full of entertainment, including the Carolina Panthers football, Charlotte Bobcats Basketball, Knights Baseball, Checkers Hockey, and NASCAR. Also, including premier golf courses, performing arts center, theaters, white-water rafting, fishing, sailing, waterskiing, and the list goes on and on.

Along with this Charlotte has been able to retain many of the graduates out of the nearby colleges and universities which serve as a testament to Charlotte's vibrancy and employment opportunities that attract young professionals from around the state.

THEATRE CHARLOTTE WILL BE PRESENTING ~ GODSPELL

Godspell

The Theatre Charlotte will be presenting the play GODSPELL. GODSPELL is one of the biggest Broadway and off-Broadway musical successes of all time. The play is based on the Gospel According to St. Matthew. It boasts a string of well loved songs, led by "Day by Day." The cast members perform such songs as: "Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord" "Learn Your Lessons Well," "All Good Gifts," and "By My Side," as the parables of Jesus Christ come to life in a heartwarming way.

GODSPELL is a ground-breaking and unique reflection on the life of Jesus, with a message of kindness, tolerance, and love. What's best is that it is rated E for everyone.

So if you live in the Charlotte area or if you are planning a trip to the area around September, GODSPELL would be a great addition on your "Things See and Do List!"

DENVER is CLOSE TO SEEING ~ SALLY'S YMCA ~ (LAKE NORMAN, NC)

Denver is getting a YMCA ~ Sally's Y

Denver is in the process of getting a YMCA! It is something that I have heard since they finished the Lincolnton YMCA several years ago; even with the rapid growth in the Denver area there wasn't an urgency until David and Jo Clark got involved.

On April 4, 2004, their only daughter Sally McKenzie Clark and her cousin Anna Grace Jordan were tragically killed in a car accident by a drunk driver. Both girls were only 19 at the time, with a lifetime of plans and dreams ahead of them.

After Sally's death, her family and friends decided to create a lasting memorial in her honor. They wanted to not only remember her life, but they also wanted to celebrate what she loved. With Sally's love of God and passion for sports and the outdoors Sally's parents came up with the idea to build a YMCA in her name. Included will be a Chapel in Anna Grace Jordan's name. Jo Clark and other members of Grace's family have contributed the money for the memorial.

With this David and Jo Clark have donated about 50 acres off of Optimist Club Road at the new four-lane Highway 16; said to be worth around $1,000,000 for the proposed site. Along with this they are donating their share of the wrongful-death lawsuit settlement estimated at $283,000. YMCA supporters have already raised close to $6 million of the $7 million they need to raise before construction on the building can begin.

The next scheduled fundraiser for Sally's Y. Will be a dinner theater; the event is the play "Chicago" which will be presented by Grant Ewing and the Verdict Ridge Backyard Players.

The Dates: September 19 - 20, 2008

Time: 6:30 PM - 9:00 PM

Location: Verdict Ridge, Denver, NC

Event Cost: TBD

Big Day at the Lake (Lake Norman) ~ Event

BIG DAY at the Lake

On Saturday, July 19th (rain day is Saturday, July 26th) the Lake Norman Community is observing the fourth annual Big Day at the Lake. Big Day is embraced by the local business community. It's a day when people from all walks of life come together. It is organized around the Big Brother/Big Sisters model. Young people in Big Brothers/Big Sisters are invited for a day of fun and recreation on Lake Norman. The event includes tubing and swimming to fishing and sailing. To make this a fun and safe outing each young person comes with a built-in chaperone. Without the support of literally hundreds of volunteer boat hosts who donate their time to take the kids out on the lake in boats of all kinds this fun could not happen.

From the very beginning the Lake Norman business community has literally dived in head first to support the Big Day at the Lake event. This year more than $30,000 in cash went into supporting the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Greater Charlotte.

Big Day culminates in a massive picnic at Duke's Energy Explorium.  The picnic features hot dogs and soft drinks, lots of games for yet another opportunity for different groups of people to mingle, talk, and forge relationships.

At a time when our society is increasingly stratified, this event makes a splash heard all over the region.

What does the word PROFESSIONAL mean to you??

What is your definition of PROFESSIONAL? It seems we use that word a lot when we are describing people. We also use it in most of our promotional marketing material. I know what Webster's definition is but what is your definition ~ what comes to your mind when someone says they are a "PROFESSIONAL"?? Do you think it may be an over used word??

Would like to hear everyone's thoughts.....
